If it's Monday —it's TERRIER TIME!

Hey Mom! Turn off the computer and grab the leash. It's almost 4:00pm on Monday. And that means...it's Terrier Time!!!!
The country club golf course closes for maintenance at 1:00 p.m. on Mondays so me and my pals all meet up to play and race around. Here's my Scottie gal pal MacKenzie, waiting for us to arrive!

Hang in there, MacKenzie! We're on our way. Just had to rescue that tennis ball that was stuck under an azalea bush by the tennis courts. Those bushes around the tennis courts are a goldmine!
Here's Bailey, the 5-month old Westie puppy that Mom's a bit obsessed with. Sure he's cute, but he kinda looks like a polar bear cub to me.

Just look at that face. It makes Mom all ooey-gooey. Me? I don't get it.

Now what I do get is chasing after the ball with all my pals! Trailing behind me are McDuffy - Bailey's big brother, Bailey the squirtball, and MacKenzie.

Bailey and MacKenzie wait to see which way I'll run next!

Okay, I get it Mom, you think Bailey is cute.

And sure, everyone ooohhhed and ahhhed when the little tyke caught the tennis ball and carried it around...

But enough already! I can do that froggy dog leg thing too you know!

Not all the dogs at Terrier Time are, well, Terriers. Some are wannabes. Like my new friend Robbie. He's a bit shy because he's just 15 months old and this was his first Terrier Time. But look at that nice smile!
When a terrier nose gets a bit too personal, just sit on your Mom's feet!

C'mon, says McDuffy, and throw the ball again! Enough with the clicky box.

This is either BJ or Hilton — they look so much alike, I can't tell the difference! They're a fun bouncy brother and sister.
Okay—I've decided that this will be my MANGO MINSTER ENTRY photo! I'm at my terrier best, a bit scruffy, alert, smiling and ready to go chase a ball!

Now c'mon Mom, it's already 3:46!

P.S. Just back from Terrier Time and there were 12 dogs today - me and Robbie and McDuffy and Bailey and BJ and Hilton plus Westie Savannah and Muffy who looks like Bear and Welshie Cleo and Honey the Mini Schnauzer and Maggie the Border Terrier and Samantha the Weimeraner! Dog heaven! Good thing I found a tennis ball on the way over.

Mica's Mango Minster entry photo and MORE!

Just saying...

Okay, if you haven't logged off in disgust, then your weather must be improving as well!

I'm still going through hundreds of proofs, looking for just the right shot for my Mango Minster entry. How about this one with my bunny? Still looking...

However, Mica has decided on this dignified shot...
Just look how handsome my cat-bro is—with his paws crossed for good luck. He's going to be 20 in February so I think he deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award, like at the Oscars! He's hanging out in New York with our pal Willy who knows to turn on the faucet when he wants a drink.

Meanwhile, look what showed up down here in South Carolina for ME! It's from Cynthia's Twigs! She's the super delightful lady who made my gorgeous bicycle basket with the polka dot liner and pillow. She is sooo nice and if you're looking for a basket that will hold a dog up to 25+ pounds, her baskets are just the greatest. Sturdy, comfy, removeable if your Mom wants to take it shopping, and very stylish!

Anyhow...look what she sent me! A brand-new lining and pillow in a chic Burberry-esque tartan! A real homage to my Scottish heritage.

Just look how adorable it is in my basket. I should be in an ad for Burberry! I just love my new cycling gear and love you Cynthia for your generosity and kindness.

Seriously - if your 2-Leggeds have made New Year's Resolutions to get out and exercise more, tell them to bring you along for a bike ride!

Coming soon: Crazy Buddy, Terrier Time pals, and more beach shots!

Inspiring Almost-Service Dog Video

Please look at the video above - it's just wonderful and so inspiring! Our pal Clive has made us so much more aware of how lives can be changed thanks to service dogs. Hats off to Ricochet!

Where the wild things are, truffle hound and new friends

Sit back, take the phone off the hook, get a cup of something nice to drink - this is going to be a long post!

Where the wild things are...

First off, let's take a walk around to the lagoon to see all the birds that have been gathering there. There have been dozens of merganser ducks on the lagoon. Here's a photo of a male - those are all feathers in that big bouffant hairdo! They will disappear under water and then you'll see them start popping up out of nowhere.

Here is a great blue heron at the mouth of the creek that runs behind our house into the lagoon. You can also see an egret on the bank. We tried to get closer to get a better shot but he flew off, spewing curses at us! To give you a sense of scale, he probably stands about 5 feet tall!

Here's a smaller heron and another egret right behind our house. The great blue heron was back here too, but he left when we walked over to the bank to get a better look.

While we've had deep freezes overnight, there are still some flowers in bloom, like our neighbor's gorgeous camillias. We have a baby camillia bush planted by our front door that has some tight buds—fingers and paws crossed we might get some flowers when the weather warms up next week.

And here is our new pet! This little male cardinal has been visiting us every day this past week, usually starting around 9:00 a.m. He pecks and flies at the windows all around the house. Mom was afraid he'd hurt himself, but he's not violent, just noisy! We've named him Wolsey after another famous cardinal who made a big racket. For the first couple of days, I'd run up to the window and bark at him, now he's just a member of the family!

The tale/tail of the truffle hound...

So at our New Year's Day brunch, a friend of Mom's brought her these fancy chocolate truffles that Mom put in this shell dish in the living room.

The other morning, when Mom walked through the living room on her way to the kitchen, she noticed one of the truffles in the middle of the rug. Hmmm. How did that get there?

It was untouched, so she put it back in the dish. A while later, she heard some rustling in the living room and —caught me in the act of trying to unwrap a truffle! Mom's still baffled as to how I got them out of the dish as the table is too deep for me to just reach it.

No more truffles for this hound...
and finally...some new friends!

It was warm enough the other afternoon to head to the beach! Hooray!!! When we got there, we met six doggies—it was a party!

This is Blossom, a gorgeous Shepherd mix. And don't be fooled by the pretty name, he's a handsome fellow.

And this is Sam. Who is actually a Samantha. She liked to chase the ball too.

Whee! I love being the dog that the other dogs chase. From left to right is Ben, Cody - a labradoodle that looks like my NYC friend Pumpkin who's a golden doodle, and Poppy, a Cairn Terrier mix. Can't catch me!

Zooming on a wide-open beach is just the best! (By the way, that's Sam's tennis ball, you know I never drop mine for a second!)

Cody really loved to chase Poppy around. He didn't seem to mind. I think Blossom was just happy to observe!
There was this crazy sand sculpture on the beach - we didn't know if it was an ancient calendar or a sundial. But it was very cool!

Ahhh, gotta catch my breath and take a breather...

....ummmm! Nothing like the scent of the sea on a brisk sunny day.

Poppy and Blossom decided to go exploring a bit too far away, so once they were rounded up, they went back on their leashes. Poppy is awfully cute. He is a rescued pup and was found in an awful condition. How can people be so cruel to such a great little dog?

Here he is plotting with Blossom where they'll go on their next adventure. Blossom is a rescue dog, too. He's so sweet and loves a good long scritchy scratch.

As are Ben and Sam. Our hats are off to their owners Sue and Elizabeth for so generously opening their homes and their hearts to these deserving dogs! Just look at that happy smiling face.

Ahhh, quite a wonderful adventure. Now...time for a nap and more dreams of wild things, new friends and dog-friendly chocolate truffles!

Not safe for work!

When it's too cold to play outside, bring the fun indoors! Hope my ferious growling doesn't frighten anyone! I suggest playing this game with your noisiest toy, the one you've ignored so long that your Mom thinks you've grown disinterested in it, right when the crucial part of her television show is on!

Oh the weather outside's delightful....

Sorry I haven't posted since 2009 (!) but we've been awfully busy seeing friends and having a New Year's Day brunch. The food disappeared before we could get any photos (sausage and cheese strata, French toast casserole, sparkling Sea Breezes) but I got some nibbles during clean-up and taught all the guests how to play ball.

Today, the weather is a bit brisk for down here - in the mid-40's - but the sun is shining and the sky is bright blue and that means...BEACH WALK!!!!

There were lots of people and doggies down here earlier in the week. I even met a nice Basset boy named Barney (I told him to Google Aunties Martha and Bailey!) and a great pair of Border Collies that let me borrow their Dad's right arm for about an hour. Their two-leggeds were from Scotland so Mom talked about Hogmaney and First Footing with them (we're still waiting for a tall dark haired man to walk through our door bearing gifts...)

Today the beach was wide open and the water was as flat as if it were a lake.

"C'mon already, throw the ball!"

This crab looked a bit frozen. I wonder if he'd met Mrs. Paul or the Gordon Fisherman?

Look! It was so flat today you could see the curve of the earth! Mom has decided that when we go to the beach, I only go by my Southern name of Disregard. She can call "Petey!" all she wants but I don't know who that Yankee dog might be, I do declare!

This tall skinny tree is our landmark for where we turn around on our beach walks. Today we went a bit further...

...because Mom spotted this driftwood and decided to go all artsy-fartsy on me.
Mom, it's just a stick!

I make it a much more interesting photo, don't you think?

Then we saw something that got us both all excited! A PAIR of dolphins frolicking right off shore. Mom keeps telling Clive's NSLM that she spots dolphin down here and finally she had her camera ready to go!!!

Just look how close they were! (Biggify these photos to see them a little better!)

This dolphin is just about to dive. Mom says trying to photograph dolphin is liking taking photos of shooting stars - by the time you've seen them, they're gone.

One last shot before they disappeared in the sunlit water...

See you later dolphins! Swim over to Ireland and wave to my pal Murray, will you please?

Hmmm, looks like my pal Mr. Horseshoe Crab isn't doing so well.

Ahhh, back to the beach club for a nice refreshing drink of clear water (and to wash off my ball).
Can't believe I'm going to be here for two whole months!

Happy New Year everyone— I think 2010 is going to be awesome...
