Today is all about swimming...

It is my absolute favorite thing to do in the summer time. Heck, I even like to do it in the winter! This past January, I was down on Hilton Head Island, SC visiting my Grannie and I'd run into the ocean after chasing tennis balls on the beach to cool off my belly. (And I run so fast, sparks fly off my paws. At least I think so!)
I don't understand why bath time isn't as much fun as going swimming? Mommy tries to convince me that it's the same thing, but we know better, don't we?

One day, she was trying to get me to come home from the dog run and I wasn't quite ready to go. So whenever she'd grab the leash, I'd jump into this bucket. She calls it "Dog Soup with Tennis Ball garnish."

Once last summer it was so hot and steamy, Mommy took me to a place with an indoor swimming pool just for dogs! ("Fine with me!" says Mica.) It was filled with dozens of tennis balls, but every time I'd run around the edge and try to get one, it would bob under the water. Finally, I fell in. I wasn't too crazy that I couldn't touch the bottom, but one of the nice ladies there got me a lifejacket. Don't I look like I should be on Baywatch???

Petey, I love to swim too. And I have a vest, but don't need it. How much do you weigh, I'm 22 lbs, slender and pretty fast.

Hi Sally and Rufus! Nice to meet ya!

My Mommy got me a lifejacket of my very own too for when we go to the beach. She likes to go swimming in the ocean and I'd get nervous waiting for her on shore. So now she can just lift me over the breaking waves and we can swim together. My grannie asked why I need a lifejacket when none of the other doggies on the beach have them. Mommy told her that none of the other doggies are city slickers from New York!

I weigh about 25-26 pounds, though I'm on a diet right now to get back down to around 22-23 pounds. At one point, I weighed 27 pounds! We were watching the dog show and when the Cairns came up, they said that the males must weigh 14 lbs., and the females 13 lbs. Mommy looked at me and told me I could compete as two dogs!

Your pal,

Petey

Petey!

You like to swim too! That's awesome. I noticed right away in this post that we have some pretty cool things in common... You say sparks fly off your paws because you run so fast, right? Well same here! (hence the name, Sparky).

Also, I know exactly what you mean about how bath water isn't as good as other kinds of water... This is my view of two kinds of water: http://sparkybarky.blogspot.com/2008/04/two-kinds-of-water.html

Hee hee!

I hope you have a GRRRReat day, Petey!

Oops, just add " -water.html " to the end of that link... Then it should work, hee hee.

Wow Sparky! That's one remarkable leap into good water! I'm always concerned about messing up my hair and getting my beard wet, because then I look kind of weasely. And when my legs get wet, Mommy wants to get out the barbeque sauce because they look like chicken legs!

Petey Boy!

I'm a big swimmer myself, but I don't like pools very much. I'm more of a pond, lake, and river swimmer.

You look very buff and ready for action in that life jacket. You'd be a shoe-in for Bow Wow Watch.

Goob love,
STanley
