Today is Not-Of-My-Species Day when we celebrate our other friendships. While Mica certainly qualifies, today I thought I'd celebrate my many friendships with another kind of 2leggeds...the littlest ones!
You may think we're celebrating NOMS day here as a lion and a bumblebee! No, it's just me and my good friend Mia last Halloween. (I was Sting, actually, and Mommy was The Police.) Mia is one of my earliest NOMS friends. When she was first starting to bark, she'd call me "Beat-e!"
I met these two little girls from Canada (do you know them, Clover and Chef?) two years ago in September on the beach on Hilton Head. They were there on vacation and we played ball for a long time because they kept taking turns tossing it to me. (As Mommy said to their parents, "You do realize that none of the three of them thinks this game has an end?") Then last September, we were back on Hilton Head, visiting Granny, running on the beach. We saw two little girls and one said "Can we play with your dog?" Mommy said "Sure, come here Petey!"
The little girls' Mommy got all excited and said "It's Petey! It's Petey! We have a photo of the twins playing with Petey here on the beach last September!!!" Can you believe the odds of that happening? So I played with the twins again for a long time. Maybe Asta and I will see them again on the beach this September. Mommy took this photo with her eye-Phone and emailed it to the twins in Canada so they'd have an updated photo of the three of us.
This little girl was also a bumblebee! Are we cute, or what? We were all a-buzz! (I'll have you know I wore my antenna hat for SIX hours and won a prize at the Dog Run Halloween party for keeping my costume on the longest!)
This is my friend Cameron. Our mommys used to work together. We were both staying at a friend's house in Bridgehampton for the weekend a couple summers ago. She thought I was lots of fun to play with, especially since she doesn't have a dog of her own. I'd drop tennis balls in the pool when she was swimming and she'd throw them for me. (Little 2-leggeds are so easy to train!)

A few months later, Cammie and I had a playdate in Central Park. When we walked over to the merry-go-round, Mommy was waiting with Cammie and her little brother who was in his stroller while her Mom got the tickets. Mommy and I were planning on guarding the stroller while everyone else was on the merry-go-round, but Cammie's Mom came back and said "Dogs can go on merry-go-round, too!" So Mommy put me up on a horse and we rode around and around! We could hear people watching say "Hey! There's a dog on there!" Sorry we don't have any photos of that!
So those are just a handful of my favorite NOMS. In our neighborhood, I meet more every day.
