'Twas the night before Trick or Treat....

Happy HOWL-oween my bloggie friends

Our neighborhood is really getting into the spirit (spirits?) of the season. Just check out some of these pumpkins...

This looks like a Snowman who overdid it with the self-tanner!

And this one looks like a work-of-art...

Check out this spooky window at our neighborhood drugstore!

Ah ha! Of course Jackson had something to do with it!

The park across the street has a fun HOWL-oween tradition. The local supermarket donated 100 pumpkins and everyone in the neighborhood is invited to take a pumpkin home, carve it and then bring it back to be lit up in the park.

Here I am posing with one at the base of the big statue. It looks like I'm at a scary cemetery, doesn't it?
The carved Jack-o-lanterns are tucked under trees all around the park. It's eerie...

Just look what happens if you stare at a lit pumpkin too long!!!

Tomorrow I'll be globe-trotting - first to Eric, Asta and Lacie's pawty at the Tower of London, then back to New York, just in time for our annual party at the dog run.

Don't know if I'll have time to blog on, so I decided to show off my Halloween costume to you tonight. Remember I gave you a clue..."if I was an actor, I'd be working for scale...."

So here it is....

I'm Petey the Magic Dragon!!!

Have a SPOOKtacular HOWL-oween everyone!!!!

One Night at the Museum - the REAL story!

Lacie posted on her bloggie about our Saturday night date to the Museum of Modern Art (the MOMA) here in New York.

But as usual, she got things a little mixed up. First off - I did say she was "a piece of work" but I quickly corrected myself to say "a work of art."

And here's the proof:

Look at that little Katie-Holmesian half-smile of hers as she takes those other poor doggies to the cleaners. It's classic Lacie portraiture.

Now, for the real reason we got thrown out of the MOMA. It had nothing to do with my tennis balls. They know me as a famous tennis ball media artist. Here is one of my latest works. I call it "Mommy running into a glass door."

So no, the tennis balls were not the problem. I pawtographed a few for some fans - could I help it if they dropped them and I had to go retrieve them with a spectacular bounce off a Lichtenstein?

(Come to think of it, maybe Lacie has inspired more than one work of art!)

Anyhow, I turned my back for a second and Lacie was gone. I heard lots of commotion and people pointing up at the iconic Arthur Young Bell-47D1 Helicopter that is suspended from the ceiling of the MOMA.

Later, after the guards kicked us out, Lacie told me she was just curious if she could "fire that whirlybird up!"

I can only imagine what might have happened if we'd gone to the Museum of Natural History instead....

Trick?...or TREAT!!!!

Hello ladies....
Bet you never imagined this is what I was hiding under that fur coat!
Hehehehehe!

This is my pal Alex. He's seven years old and spent the afternoon with us. It just so happened that the kids' Halloween Party was going on at our local playground so we headed over there.

There  were some great costumes! Our favorite was a little boy dressed as Curious George and his Daddy was The Man in the Yellow Hat. Alex didn't have a costume, as we'd just come from brunch - he was wearing a white button-down shirt with a vest and nice navy pants. I was wearing my Bark Obama shirt, so we decided he was newsman Anderson Cooper!

While some kids will trick-or-treat at the apartment buildings, most kids follow the "trick 0r treat" trail and visit the area shops that have a pumpkin sign in their window. A  lot of the stores had dog treats, too, so I had a lot of fun as well!

Soon there will be glowing pumpkins in the park across the street....

And scary skeleton lawn flamingos in window boxes...(these cracked Mommy up!)

BOO!!!!!!

P.S. I'd also like to thank my adorable friend Abby for nominating me for DWB's Post of the Month for October. Stanislaw and Toffee are up too, so be sure to vote for any or all our our friends - we're all winners!

Sex and the City (and Petey)

Guess who I almost tripped with my leash?

Mommy needed to dash across the street to the bodega (corner market for you non-NYCers) and I decided to tag along. We paused to stop a neighbor's baby from crying - she loves me so as soon as Mommy told her that "Petey heard her crying and it made him sad" she dried right up!

Good deed done, we proceeded down the avenue. I was trotting along nicely when suddenly a tantalizing pee-mail drew me right in front on Mommy and a nice looking man who was walking towards us...

Holy smokes, it was MISTER BIG!!!

He and Mommy did one of those side-to-side dances so they'd avoid bumping into each other (so yes, Mommy made eye-contact with the very tasty Mister Big) and then he was on his way.

Now, when I was just a young pup, we were out for a walk and there was a lady coming towards us with her little boy, who was on a trike. The lady was pulling a particularly delicious looking stuffy on wheels (yikes! My first wheelie experience!) and as I lunged at it for a closer look, she pulled it up and away, causing me to jump on her. Mommy was very apologetic, but I did it on purpose.

The lady with the little boy was Sarah Jessica Parker.

Now that there's talk of a sequel to the movie, don't you think Carrie and Big need to have a scruffy but adorable Cairn terrier of their very own?

Me too.

Petey's Dream Machine

Apologies for the HBO word in the title, but is this the most awesome gadget ever??? Santa Paws, are you listening????

One of the BEST days ever!!!!

Today was one of my favorite days of the whole year! The annual "My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. There are probably several thousand dogs and their people attending (over 8,000 last year!) and it was a glorious day.

There were lots of booths with free dog treats, micro-chipping and information about becoming a therapy dog. There were dogs and kitties there for adoption, two guys auditioning dogs for David Letterman's Stupid Pet tricks, you name it!

I went with my friend Jazz, an 11 year old Schnoodle who lives just a few blocks from the park, so he could let me know the best places to leave my pee-mails.

Here we are laughing at our Mommies as they try to get us to hold still together and smile for the camera "Cheese--burgers with bacon!"

They have lots of fun things for dogs to do with their owners. There were spoon races where you had to run with your owner while they held an egg in a spoon without dropping it.
Mommy and I ran through this maze in 26 seconds! The lowest time was 13 seconds and we could have beat that if someone hadn't sabotaged the maze by dropping dog biscuits all through it. I was probably the only doggie that ate his way along the course!

My favorite thing to do was the agility course! We had to wait 45 minutes to do it, because so many dogs wanted to give it a try. I had to jump over hurdles, through a tire like this (twice!), run through a tunnel, and then go up one end of a teeter-totter and down the other (that took a couple tries because I fell off a couple times until I got the hang of it.) I was much faster than the other doggies trying the course.

There was a pawsome costume contest for the most Fashionable New Yorker. I liked the doggie in the Yankees shirt myself.  (Do you recognize that Jack Russell giving his paws a sniff? More later!)
These were two of the finalists -- the great pumpkin pup and Frankensteindog.

He was so small, I don't think you could make a pumpkin pie from him!

Okay, guess who the celebrity dog judge and owner were? Elvis and Dave from The Greatest American Dog!!! OMD!!! Elvis was our absolute favorite! Not only was he from New York, but he was the awesomest terrier!!!

Look! I even got my photo taken with him! He was really swell, not a big showoff. Mommy thought he was soooo adorable and very sweet. (Elvis, that is.) Dave was very nice too. He told us that there were lots of rattlesnakes where the show was shot - one day they took away 13! And alot of the events were held in a horse corral so Elvis was very interested in the smells rather than the events. I don't blame him! He's a city dog, after all.

Wow. I can't believe I got to meet my terrier idol from TV!

There were also lots of book readings -- "Dog Tales"-- from new books about dogs. This fellow rescued the Chihuahuas that are on Broadway playing Bruiser in "Legally Blonde" from a shelter. From rags to riches - that's a true Broadway story on the "Avenue of Dreams...."

Just look at all the books about dogs! Mommy's favorite title was "Puppy Chow is Better Than Prozac." I don't read, so I'll just have to wait for the movie. (Although we did pick up complimentary copies of Animal Fair and Bark magazines - for the pictures!)

The event was hosted by a Cav, one of the organizer's doggies, who happened to be wearing this very excellent tee-shirt!
I was wearing my "Bark Obama" tee-shirt all day (www.petsvote.com) and we got asked about 1,000 times where we got our shirt!  So we decided to hit the campaign trail together!

While there were lots of fun things to do (and LOTS of fun things to eat! Rachel Ray's new dog treats in Bacon or Peanut Butter are AMAZING!), the best part of the day was seeing all the different kinds of doggies, just hanging out together and having a great time on a beautiful fall day in New York.

Check out this assortment of pups!

There were little teensy dogs....

And ginormously humungous dogs!

There were dogs from Germany (Wouldn't Lorenza look cute in one of these coats?)...

And dogs from Olde England....

These two French beauties....

And everyone got along. It didn't matter if they were big or small, old or young, or where they were from or what color they were. If they were beautiful or ugly, were purebred or mutt.

Next to the Fair was a beautiful field where hundreds of dogs were romping around playing and rolling in the grass and laughing and barking and having a marvelous time.  I played ball with a 9-month old Cockapoo named Harley, she was delightful!

At the end of the afternoon, nobody wanted the day to end. It was magical!

On our way out of Central Park, we walked through Strawberry Fields, the beautiful and peaceful memorial to John Lennon, who lived (and died) nearby. People had brought flowers and arranged them in a peace sign on the "Imagine" mosaic....

I wished, and not just for the first time, that people could be as smart as dogs and get along with one another as well as we do. Our sole purpose is just to love and be loved.

I hummed a little of John Lennon's song "Imagine" all the way home on the bus.

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one.

Project DogRunway

So the finale of one of our favorite television shows was on the other night at the same time as the third presidential debate.

Since we already KNOW we're voting for Bark Obama, we watched Project Runway instead. Our friend Glenn (Bear's Dad) came over because Bear is down in Philadelphia directing an opera this month (Dogoletto?) and he needed a dog fix.  He's been working on an event in Hawaii and brought over some crazy promotional items.

Like this blinking lei! Do I look like the Big Kahounda?

Inspired by the contestants of Project Runway, I quickly turned my lei into a Kenley-worthy headpiece. Now I really look like King of the Luau!

Mommy reminded me that she had created some canine couture for me when I was but a young pup. She knitted this handsome fisherman sweater with cables and everything.

It's nice, huh? Only she forgot that boy dogs have different plumbing than female dogs so she'd have to wash it every time I wore it. I passed it on to my first girlfriend Ruby, who was a Westie. (We had kind of a Demi/Ashton relationship...)

Then when I was a male model, I was in between sizes for this sharp Ekoo jacket so this one in the photo was custom-made for me. I could have won a spread in Dogue modeling this!

This one was custom-made for me too. I kinda hate it because it makes me look like a pimp, but I wore it in a fashion show for a fancy department store. I was "fur for fall" and the guy walking me was wearing a gold raincoat! Talk about looking like a couple of pimps!

Of course, I think Lenny's mom should win Project DogRunway for her awesome YesWeCandanas! (Also known as Obamadanas!)

The fit, the craftsmanship, the eye for detail—in my opinion, she's the next Donna Cairn!

Have a fabulous, fashionable weekend! We're off to the Dog Fair in Central Bark tomorrow so I should have lots of great dog photos to post!
