One of the BEST days ever!!!!

Today was one of my favorite days of the whole year! The annual "My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. There are probably several thousand dogs and their people attending (over 8,000 last year!) and it was a glorious day.

There were lots of booths with free dog treats, micro-chipping and information about becoming a therapy dog. There were dogs and kitties there for adoption, two guys auditioning dogs for David Letterman's Stupid Pet tricks, you name it!

I went with my friend Jazz, an 11 year old Schnoodle who lives just a few blocks from the park, so he could let me know the best places to leave my pee-mails.

Here we are laughing at our Mommies as they try to get us to hold still together and smile for the camera "Cheese--burgers with bacon!"

They have lots of fun things for dogs to do with their owners. There were spoon races where you had to run with your owner while they held an egg in a spoon without dropping it.
Mommy and I ran through this maze in 26 seconds! The lowest time was 13 seconds and we could have beat that if someone hadn't sabotaged the maze by dropping dog biscuits all through it. I was probably the only doggie that ate his way along the course!

My favorite thing to do was the agility course! We had to wait 45 minutes to do it, because so many dogs wanted to give it a try. I had to jump over hurdles, through a tire like this (twice!), run through a tunnel, and then go up one end of a teeter-totter and down the other (that took a couple tries because I fell off a couple times until I got the hang of it.) I was much faster than the other doggies trying the course.

There was a pawsome costume contest for the most Fashionable New Yorker. I liked the doggie in the Yankees shirt myself.  (Do you recognize that Jack Russell giving his paws a sniff? More later!)
These were two of the finalists -- the great pumpkin pup and Frankensteindog.

He was so small, I don't think you could make a pumpkin pie from him!

Okay, guess who the celebrity dog judge and owner were? Elvis and Dave from The Greatest American Dog!!! OMD!!! Elvis was our absolute favorite! Not only was he from New York, but he was the awesomest terrier!!!

Look! I even got my photo taken with him! He was really swell, not a big showoff. Mommy thought he was soooo adorable and very sweet. (Elvis, that is.) Dave was very nice too. He told us that there were lots of rattlesnakes where the show was shot - one day they took away 13! And alot of the events were held in a horse corral so Elvis was very interested in the smells rather than the events. I don't blame him! He's a city dog, after all.

Wow. I can't believe I got to meet my terrier idol from TV!

There were also lots of book readings -- "Dog Tales"-- from new books about dogs. This fellow rescued the Chihuahuas that are on Broadway playing Bruiser in "Legally Blonde" from a shelter. From rags to riches - that's a true Broadway story on the "Avenue of Dreams...."

Just look at all the books about dogs! Mommy's favorite title was "Puppy Chow is Better Than Prozac." I don't read, so I'll just have to wait for the movie. (Although we did pick up complimentary copies of Animal Fair and Bark magazines - for the pictures!)

The event was hosted by a Cav, one of the organizer's doggies, who happened to be wearing this very excellent tee-shirt!
I was wearing my "Bark Obama" tee-shirt all day (www.petsvote.com) and we got asked about 1,000 times where we got our shirt!  So we decided to hit the campaign trail together!

While there were lots of fun things to do (and LOTS of fun things to eat! Rachel Ray's new dog treats in Bacon or Peanut Butter are AMAZING!), the best part of the day was seeing all the different kinds of doggies, just hanging out together and having a great time on a beautiful fall day in New York.

Check out this assortment of pups!

There were little teensy dogs....

And ginormously humungous dogs!

There were dogs from Germany (Wouldn't Lorenza look cute in one of these coats?)...

And dogs from Olde England....

These two French beauties....

And everyone got along. It didn't matter if they were big or small, old or young, or where they were from or what color they were. If they were beautiful or ugly, were purebred or mutt.

Next to the Fair was a beautiful field where hundreds of dogs were romping around playing and rolling in the grass and laughing and barking and having a marvelous time.  I played ball with a 9-month old Cockapoo named Harley, she was delightful!

At the end of the afternoon, nobody wanted the day to end. It was magical!

On our way out of Central Park, we walked through Strawberry Fields, the beautiful and peaceful memorial to John Lennon, who lived (and died) nearby. People had brought flowers and arranged them in a peace sign on the "Imagine" mosaic....

I wished, and not just for the first time, that people could be as smart as dogs and get along with one another as well as we do. Our sole purpose is just to love and be loved.

I hummed a little of John Lennon's song "Imagine" all the way home on the bus.

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one.

Project DogRunway

So the finale of one of our favorite television shows was on the other night at the same time as the third presidential debate.

Since we already KNOW we're voting for Bark Obama, we watched Project Runway instead. Our friend Glenn (Bear's Dad) came over because Bear is down in Philadelphia directing an opera this month (Dogoletto?) and he needed a dog fix.  He's been working on an event in Hawaii and brought over some crazy promotional items.

Like this blinking lei! Do I look like the Big Kahounda?

Inspired by the contestants of Project Runway, I quickly turned my lei into a Kenley-worthy headpiece. Now I really look like King of the Luau!

Mommy reminded me that she had created some canine couture for me when I was but a young pup. She knitted this handsome fisherman sweater with cables and everything.

It's nice, huh? Only she forgot that boy dogs have different plumbing than female dogs so she'd have to wash it every time I wore it. I passed it on to my first girlfriend Ruby, who was a Westie. (We had kind of a Demi/Ashton relationship...)

Then when I was a male model, I was in between sizes for this sharp Ekoo jacket so this one in the photo was custom-made for me. I could have won a spread in Dogue modeling this!

This one was custom-made for me too. I kinda hate it because it makes me look like a pimp, but I wore it in a fashion show for a fancy department store. I was "fur for fall" and the guy walking me was wearing a gold raincoat! Talk about looking like a couple of pimps!

Of course, I think Lenny's mom should win Project DogRunway for her awesome YesWeCandanas! (Also known as Obamadanas!)

The fit, the craftsmanship, the eye for detail—in my opinion, she's the next Donna Cairn!

Have a fabulous, fashionable weekend! We're off to the Dog Fair in Central Bark tomorrow so I should have lots of great dog photos to post!

You shouldn't have! (But since you did...THANK YOU!!!)

I've been way behind in thanking my friends for the awards (and presents!) they've sent me recently.

Mitch and Maggie sent me this work in recognition of my film work. So I think it's only fair that I pass this along to my co-star Asta.

One of my favorite gal pals, Abby, sent me this wonderful international award! I know many of you have already received this, but since it celebrates sharing where you live with your fellow bloggers, I'd like to now award this to the AbClan and Tom and Sen-Chan.  They open a window on their lives in France and their sites are always a treat to visit. When you visit, be sure to scroll back and read about the festival for the Percheron horses. C'est magnifique!

Sweet Happy sent us this cheerful award. I'd like to share this smiling pumpkin with Chef and Abby for all their hard work on the First Memories website. I can't wait to see it and read all about your puppy days.

Then out of the blue came a box from the Royal Mail! And it was from one of my favorite Royal Males - ERIC! (If this box looks a bit worse for wear, it's because it's traveled across the pond three times now. It has now gone to the big recycling center in the sky...)

Inside it was simply filled to overflowing with goodies for me, Mica - even Mommy!

Lookee here - my very own cannister of fresh tennis balls (I've always had to settle for used one in the past) from Wimbledon! They are the perfect accompaniment to my U.S. Open tennis ball.
It's very interesting, but English tennis balls taste almost exactly like American ones.... Mica got a toy shrimp (prawn) filled with catnip. He loves it but he's way too dignified to play on camera.
And look here! A fabulous rubber ball with the Union Jack! I was hoping when I squeaked it, it would play "God Save the Queen" but no. It does however squeal with a veddy posh British accent. Veddy upper crust.

Just look at all this wonderful loot!

There was yarn and a knitting pattern book for Mommy (I looked in it and was relieved to find NO dog sweaters!), some delicious minty treats shaped like bones (ideal for freshening up after a nibble in the litterbox), a great blue hook for my leashes. Mommy got some chocolates too (British chocolate kicks American chocolate's butt, I've been told) but they are long gone. And Mica had already run into the other room with his shrimpy so I wouldn't decide it was mine, all mine.

Could there possibly be a better bestest friend in the whole world than Eric??? No, I didn't think so either.  Thanks again, pal!!!!

Warning:Not for the faint of heart....

It all started as a perfectly fine Saturday.

We went to the Farmer's Market to buy some fresh produce.

I even got two special cookies instead of the usual one!

Then we went to the dog run — Asta was the only dog there and we had a great time chasing balls. There was even a new tennis ball that I got nice and gunky in the water ball.

As I said it was a great day. I was chilling out on the bed, checking out the street scene from the window when I heard the sound of running water...

Uh oh.

I don't know whose "Buddy" this is, be he sure isn't mine.

Hmm, this isn't nearly as much fun as a dip in the ocean...or even the pool at the dog run. At least she hasn't messed up my hair too much.

Maybe I should try some of Asta's bathtime moves....
That she picked up from watching Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible!

Hey now! What's the big deal getting my head all soggy???

Ah, very funny! Giving me a shampoo mohawk. Are you amused?

Do I make you horny? Mommy is such a prankster...NOT!

Rinse and repeat???WTF!!! And then there's CREME RINSE?!?!? This is just awful. Gosh, I look so pink and nekkid.

I'll give Mommy a good shake! Heehehehehehe!!!
Ah, finally out of the tub. Now comes the fun part...a good rub with my favorite towel.

AHHHHHHH!!!! I can't tell you how good this feels! Wheeeeeee!

Okay, now the final touches to my 'do. Gotta get those bangs to stand up just right...

It's a good thing I'm made of synthetics. I dry off really fast! (Hey, do you think Mommy's ever going to read all those books behind me? Me neither.)

Now here's my "After" photo. Honestly, do you see any difference??? Now I smell funny and my coat all silky soft instead of scruffy like it's supposed to be.

Just as soon as we go out for a walk, I'm gonna find some pigeon poop to roll in!

Hope you're having a less traumatic weekend!

I've got a gooky eye.

We came back from our walk this morning and Mommy noticed my left eye was all gooey and gooky. So when she got back from physical therapy (with Scout and Harlan's Mommy - who had knee surgery two weeks ago. Do you think she and Harlan got a group discount?) she took me to see Dr. D. (I love Dr. D...she gives me lots of cookies and tells me I'm the best boy ever. I believe her.)

I got on the scales and wagged my tail so much they couldn't tell how much I weighed! Finally I just sat down. 23.2 lbs. That's down 3 pounds since May!  Dr. D was VERY happy at my svelte physique. A beautiful big black cat named Nero lives at the vets office and I was very anxious to say hello and I guess I made a lot of noise. A little MinPin named Jackson (!!!) came out to see what I was yapping about and the two of us joined in for a duet.

Anyhow, I've got conjunctivitis and Dr. D put some goop in it. Mommy's got to put it in twice a day for the next 4 to 5 days. I was hoping I'd get a black eye patch to wear with my skull and crossbones sweater.

Hope everyone else is feeling great!

Beefcake and Mica Monday

div>I'm exhausted this Monday morning after taking care of Petey all weekend! Plus, they've just turned the heat on in the building and the daybed by the radiator is just too toasty for words.

Petey here! I met Chef and some of the doggies headed to Washington DC for Gucci's first birthday party -- The 1,000,000 Paw March! It was a blast, but things did get a little out of paw late into the evening.

That may look like a lava lamp on the bar, but I swear it's Lacie's evil blender with her secret "smoothie" mixture.

Clover, Lorenza and the hammies were dancing on the bar! And after seeing the latest racy pics on Lorenza's bloggie, you'll completely understand what happened next...

One minute it was "Te invito a una cerveza..." and the next minute...
"Tengo resaca...Besame Lorenza!" (Have you ever seen a daschie with eight nipples shimmy? It's mind-blowing!) Needless to say, I spent the rest of the weekend recovering.

But now it's Monday and I'm back on the campaign trail, wearing my sensational "Yes, We Can-dana" that Lennie's Mom made for me. I've already gotten so many compliments! Thanks again.

This morning we passed by a bakery we've never seen before and saw these incredible CAKES in their windows. Yes! These are actually decorated cakes!

I ordered this one for Joe Stains and Doofus Tanner for Monday Night Football noshing....

I know Asta's birthday has come and gone, but she's such a girly girl, with her racy French ensembles, I've ordered this cake for her, resplendent with her signature orange buttons and ruffles.

Ahhh, a cake just like Mummy used to make! Jackson has had enough of bandages lately, so I'm going to send this one to him...and give him a hand towards his ongoing recovery! (hahaha!)

Finally, the promised BEEFCAKE! Can you believe this drool-worthy confection??? It was too big to fit into the photo! I've had this cake sent to Stanislaw and Big Pupi, our raw meat boys. But they better send me one of those bones to gnaw on!
Have a great week everyone!

Don't be scared!

It's October 1st!!! And you know what that means...just 30 days until the scariest night of the year. (And also one of the most fun if you're a little doggie in New York.)

So that means it's time to find the perfect costume for the big Halloween party at the dog run. We also have a party across the street at the park AND a kids' parade to the playground. So my costume gets a whole lot of mileage!

For my first Halloween, I was Petey the Pirate. I was just 8 months old here! You can't see it, but Mommy had a hoop earring stuck in the bandana. ARRRR!

I wore the same sweater the next year with a big rhinestone necklace of Mommy's. Can you guess what I was?

A gangsta rapper!

Then we joined the dog run and started going to the big Halloween Party there. For two years in a row, I was a Devil Dog!
Whenever I'd try to shake off my devil horns, Mommy would tell me I looked like Little Red Riding Hood and remind me "Nobody is scared of Little Red Riding Hood!"

Some German tourists stopped us on the street—they'd never seen a doggie in a costume before and took my photo to share with their friends back home!

This was my prize-winning costume from the Halloween party last year. Can you guess what I am? It's not what you think at first glance....

I was STING and Mommy wore a hat and badge and was THE POLICE! hehehehe!

I won a prize because I kept my costume on for the WHOLE party. Even the hat! In fact, I kept my costume on for nearly 7 hours.  I posed for lots of photos with other bumblebees, like this adorable little girl.
Then on our way home, later that night, there were lots of adults out in costume, some rather skimpy (and not appropriate for our PG-rated blog!). We were nearly home when we got stopped by two rather scantily clad ladies—one was a ladybug and the other...you guessed it...was a very buxom bee. She insisted on having her photo taken with me.

Mommy later told people I had my photo taken "with three Bees and one Double D!"

So what's in store for this year? You'll just have to wait and see! Only Asta's seen me in my costume and she's sworn to secrecy (aren't you, Asta?!!?!).

I'll give you one hint....if I was an actor, I'd get paid scale.

What are YOU going to be for Halloween???
